2008 Southwest
Fiberglass RV Rally
We need a place to hold the 2008 Rally. If you come across a possible location,
check with the owners or managers and ask if they would like to host the Rally.
It is preferable if we can find someplace that will take reservations. And it
could be held in March or April. So let us know if you find something
(chartmarker@cox.net).
2007 Southwest
Fiberglass RV Rally
We had a total of 8 Scamps (4 of them 5th Wheels!) and 10 Casitas
come to the April 5-8 Rally. Lots of friendly folks came and seemed to enjoy
themselves.
Dead Horse Ranch State Park
has become a very popular place and
all the sites remained full. But despite that, all but two managed to camp with
us (although two couples had to spend one night elsewhere).
The weather was good but a little windy in the afternoons. Days were warm and evenings were cool but pleasant.
Pat and I arrived on Thursday afternoon and joined two other couples in the overflow area for the night. In the morning we went up to the campground sites and found two couples with Casitas (Mike and Vicki, and Roger and Lois) who were leaving. So we snagged those sites and the third couple found a site shortly afterward.
Rick and Chris, from Centralia WA, were on the road and decided to stop by to see if they could join us. They are restoring a century old house and had some interesting stories about the house and Centralia.
Dennis and Teddy (Boulder City NV) had arrived a few days earlier. Teddy was responsible for organizing this Rally for many years. Glad they were able to join us.
Lee and Hettie, from Montana, had reserved a site at another campground but came by to visit. On our way home on Sunday we stopped at the Rest Area just north of Casa Grande and found Lee and Hettie also stopped for lunch. They were on their way to Tucson for a couple of days before heading north to Payson. Glad they were able to join us again (they were in Pahrump last year).
Sharon and Dan (from Tehaschapi CA) just happened to be there with family – but we welcomed them to our Rally. We didn’t get to visit much with Janet and Terry from Erwin Lake CA – they were often out sightseeing.
Mike and Jan didn’t arrive until Saturday morning having spent Friday night at Walmart. They work at the Grand Canyon and could get away until late. Fellow Desert Egg members, Charlie and Mary, also didn’t get there until Saturday. We hadn’t seen them since October at Picacho Peak. Good to see them again.
Russ and Freddie, from Phoenix, brought cupcakes to celebrate Russ’ 70th birthday on Sunday. Larry and Irene were there from Mohave Valley. Larry is 90 and doing good. They have a boxer named Caboose – she will be their last dog.
Bob and Diane were there from Oakland CA. Bob had made some great grab bars to both get into their 5th wheel and to get up and down the stairs to the loft. Beautiful woodwork.
We didn’t get to spend much time with Don and Sherian from Trinity TX. They always seemed to out enjoying the sites. But we did enjoy meeting them. Sally and Don, from Elephant Butte NM, came prepared with motorbike and kayaks. Sally brought her sewing machine and spent time at the Quilt Shop in town.
Phil came from Snowflake AZ. He is a recent widower and was very sociable. We really enjoyed his company and he came with us to explore Jerome on Saturday. We visited the “Ghost Town” (more like a junk yard) and he and Pat enjoyed checking out the old farming and mining machinery and old trucks. An interesting place to visit for only $4.
Dave, from New River AZ, stayed at the campground just before the turn to Dead Horse. Although we have all done some modifications to our trailers, Dave has basically remodeled his 13 ft Scamp. He took out the front bench and put in cabinets for more storage. Among other things, he installed a pull down flat panel TV. Dave and Phil were both Ham Radio buffs and had their equipment with them.
John and Donna came the furthest from Denman Island British Columbia. When Donna asked if we were leaving Sunday, I told her we had to go back to work on Monday. She asked about Easter Monday – seems the Canadians take an extra holiday after Easter, I guess to recover from eating too much chocolate.
So overall we had attendees from Washington, Ohio, Florida, Montana, Texas, New Mexico, British Columbia, California (3 couples), and Arizona (8).
On Saturday evening many of us gathered to visit together. Pat set up equipment and we enjoyed watching “RV” with Robin Williams on a big screen. Even those who had seen it before enjoyed it again.
Looking forward to the 2008 Rally.
Just a few photos from the Rally and from Jerome.
